WARA + RUBY AND THE VINES + FUR @ The Roundhouse

07.11.2011
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.

Join us for an exclusive line-up, showcasing the best new music from the exploding London global scene:

Wara

"Wara are young musical revolutionaries who simply ignore convention and bring together latin funk, cuban timba, underground hip-hop, leftfield jazz, rumba, reggae and dubstep...” Lubi Jovanovic

The band are a hot melting pot of identities, living in London with backgrounds from all over the world: Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Ghana, Congo, Spain and the UK. They’ve concocted a musical genre of their own with strong Cuban roots. Taking influences from Timba, Afro Cuban styles and the new Cuban funk-fusion bands, as well as other Latin and African rhythms and fusing them with a distinct London sensibility.

With contagious, in-your-face vocals from Congolese-Argentinean lead Juanita Euka (niece of legendary Congolese musician Franco), inspired keyboard flourishes from MD Eliane Correa, MC Murmur quick on the rhymes and a super tight Latino / UK mix on the rhythm section - their musical energy is palpable.

Ruby & The Vines

Ruby & The Vines are a three piece band that fuse rock, afrobeat, funk and reggae to create a unique and refreshing sound. The group consists of Binisa Bonner on bass and vocals, Greg Sanders on guitar and backing vocals and Ben Assiter on drums. Since wowing audiences at the BBC-hosted Celebrating Sanctuary Festival, Ruby & The Vines have been playlisted on a variety of radio shows, including tastemaker Gilles Peterson’s Radio 1 Worldwide programme and recently featured at London's African Music Festival.

Fur

Fur have been consistently block-rocking venues and bringing hype to the nonchalant.? Taking the best elements of British hip-hop, the conscious lyrics and the role of the anti-hero, fused with Dilla-esque drum beats and the sounds of mbalax, ethio-jazz and dub riddims and reinvigorating that with a live-band who bring the energy, spontaneity and crate-digging adventurousness that only a live band of hip-hop heads can.
