The Mantecas + King Lagoon’s Flying Swordfish Band

26.01.2019
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.
Movimientos presents another night of powerful Latin grooves down at the Hoot! The Mantecas are bringing their big band boogaloo to Brixton for what is sure to be a blistering show – expect everything from Latin funk to cumbia. They’ll be joined by King Lagoon’s Flying Swordfish Dance Band!

LINEUP:

Formerly known as “Manteca”, The Mantecas are an eight-piece London-based Latin soul & boogaloo band well known for creating a party mood at festivals and gigs everywhere they go, from Glastonbury and Tropical Pressure Festival to The Jazz Café in London. They have a particular ability for bridging the culture gap with any audience getting all crowds up hitting the dance floor in a jive. The Mantecas will blow your mind with a mesmerising mix of salsa, cumbia, funk, Jazz and boogaloo.

King Lagoon’s Flying Swordfish Dance Band, fusing African and South American rhythms and melodies to create a unique style of fresh, powerful, highly energetic and fun music. A full show co-ordinates an evolving palette of smells, lights, ‘exploding-star’ balloons and audience participation in The Battle of Silly String and the crowd surfing flamingo. An original and varied set of music will transport you to a faraway, fantastical place. The creation of aromas through burning oils and incense, pulverising fruit and boiling herbs accompanies the music to create a hypnotic and immersive spectacle.

As always Movimientos DJs will be connecting the dots and keeping the dancefloor moving before and after with a killer blend of Latin and tropical beats!
