Movimientos return to the Hootananny for a night of powerful Afro-Latin sounds. Fresh off the back of their latest album release we are incredibly excited to welcome The Bongo Hop as they take us on a transatlantic journey through the sounds of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, alongside Imperio Bamba, the London based group whose Latin American roots are championed through their psychedelic cumbia sounds, and Rumbo Tumba’s folkloric South American beats. Movimientos DJs will be keeping things moving before and after with a selection of sounds from across the Latin and global underground.
The Bongo Hop
Transatlantic genre-bending trip
Etienne Sevet a.k.a The Bongo Hop - french trumpetist, former journalist & teacher and long time Cali resident - took the music world by surprise with the release of his LP Satingarona pt.1, and now the recently issued pt.2. This genre-bending venture offers a highly danceable transatlantic trip through cadence, currulao, highlife, afro funk, semba, vallenato and dub, mixing electric heavenly vocals, hot brass and traditional rhythms. Influenced and inspired by the sounds of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, it’s more than just that: it’s about travelling, getting lost, collecting and searching and keeping eyes and ears open to the unexpected.
Imperio Bamba
Psychedelic cumbia with a London twist
Imperio Bamba fuse chicha and psychedelic cumbia with elements of rock, pop and Andean music, highlighting their Latin American roots within their urban London environment and creating something fresh, powerful and unique.
Rumbo Tumba
One man folktronica orchestra
Rumbo Tumba is a craftsman of organic loops, a one man orchestra playing, recording and mixing traditional wooden instruments in real time, taking South American folklore and Andean music into the future. Fusing rhythms and sound textures from different parts of South America with urban beats such as Dub, Hip Hop and House, Rumbo Tumba's music harmonizes the deep emotions of living in contact with nature and the everyday dynamics of large cities, bridging the gap between two worlds.
