New Sounds of Venezuela

03.09.2015
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.

Movimientos presents a special night bringing together three of the freshest acts from the Venezuelan underground scene for an evening of music rooted in traditional folklore and original Afro-Venezuelan & Caribbean sounds all with a heavy twist of the modern flavours of funk, hip-hop, and digital bass.

La Gallera Social Club (UK debut)
La Gallera Social Club are an exciting trip filled with Venezuelan folklore, psychedelia and traditional atmospheres from South American culture. You can hear the protest of the oppressed people with a touch of bright hopes, because it is here where Latin America and the Caribe vibrate.

“La Gallera” is the country, the joy, the fun, the place where the roosters get together, not to fight but to sing and dance, bringing back the cadence of the traditional melodies or Venezuelan music, playing the instruments to show the greatness of the soul.

Miguel, Alexis and Carlos took to the “Gallera” to make their music, creating a country a social club: a place to get together, for friendship, communication and celebration. There’s not fighting in this cockpit, only colorful joy!

Expect bright colours, classic latin rhythms, and a little bit of madness from the dancing roosters.

Monsalve Y Los Forajidos
Forajidos, literally "outlaws", reflects perfectly the musical style of this group born in Caracas, Venezuela at the end of the last decade and now based in Paris. Their music is influenced by the traditional rhythms of the Caribbean and especially Afro-Venezuelan music, but also by more funky sounds, combining Afrobeat, Jazz and experimental sounds. The fusion of these elements gives an explosive mix full of freedom, creativity and contrasts! Either to fire the dancefloor or to bewitch the ears, this project is probably one of the most interesting and audacious groups in the world of the recent Latin American music.

“These are musicians who defy rhythmic and others musical patterns. Bassist Raul Monsalve and his group is one of those experiences that never disappoint and leaves you thirsty for much more” –Mercedes Sanz, Noesfm Radio

"Insanely funky track from Venezuelan bass player Monsalve and his group with a unique take on the sounds of the Afro-Venezuelan tambores" – Cal Jader’s Best Tracks of 2014, Sounds and Colours Magazine

Bituaya (UK debut)
Bituaya are an Afro-Venezuelan musical experience. Fusing Caribbean and African flavours with a urban digital sound, their songs are layered with conscious lyrics concerning Venezuelan life. Creators of #Electrocaribe rhythm, Bituaya are key players in the global network of tropical bass. Born from the Latin America Cultural Centre: Tiuna El Fuerte, which they helped found. Expect the room to heat up when this hot 4 piece band get going and feel the dance take you.
