Movimientos presents: Mama Kasbah + Brass Knuckles + Gecko + Movimientos DJs

13.03.2015
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.

Another bumper line up of tropical rhythms and skanking global funk to tear the roof off The Hootananny once more. From Spain, Ital and France via Ireland our special international guests Mama Kasbah bring a rabble rousing mestizo blend of Rumba-Reggae, Balkan Punk, Cumbia and Ska, a global sound that moves beyond the boundaries and lyrics that speak of social themes as immigration, cultural diversity or resistance to economic globalization. Out of the flames of the SOAS Brass band come Brass Knuckles who transmit their love of Funk, Hip Hop, Balkan and global sounds through a riotous show of full powered horn led mayhem. Whilst Gecko mixes his lyrical eccentricity with programmed beats and a love of pop hooks with a hint of tropical influences. And of course Movimientos DJs keep it jumping joining the dots between latin rhythms, global bass and tropical carnival sounds.

Mama Kasbah

From Rumba Reggae to Gypsy Cumbia, the band delivers a joyful energy and a positive message declined in different languages. Their recent album features 9 original creations of the band and a completely transformed version of the song “Brigante se more” from the Italian songwritter Eugenio Bennato. It features some of the songs performed in their powerful live performance, but with a new look including news instruments, such as cuban tres, electric guitars, mandolin and latin percussions.

“Mama Kasbah is a fantastically fun ban. […] It’s a set of immense fun and energy” - Sean Noone (U&I) Music Agency

Since its early days the band has become one of the fast growing bands of the Dublin musical scene creating enthusiasm among the expatriates in the city and the curiosity among the Irish.
As they federated a larger public, the band came to perform in various events and venues, and developed links with other band and organisations in Dublin (Bionic Rats, Mutefish, Goulash Disko, ARN, etc.).

The story now continues with the promotional tour of La Vida Da Vueltas Tour 2014-2015 starting with an Irish national tour following Mad Professor, legend of the Reggae Dub music. Then the band will continue touring in Ireland and is working on a European tour for 2015.

Gecko

'Gecko is the alias of North London based songwriter Will S-T. He mixes lyrical eccentricity with programmed beats and a love of pop hooks.

His latest single 'Get up' has been showcased by Huw Stephens on Radio 1 , playlisted by XFM & Amazing Radio and had huge support from BBC Introducing in London where he was made 'Featured artist' and invited in for a session.

Gecko has appeared all over the festival circuit including Glastonbury, Bestival & PinkPop in the Netherlands. His videos have been shared by the likes of Ed Sheeran & Rob Da Bank. He's toured the UK and Europe playing over 300 shows alongside the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Lee 'Scratch' Perry and The Skints.'

Brass Knuckles

Here comes the sucker punch! North London brassophiles are making the journey south with a new spin on their act. Expect the purest of UK garage classics, spine-tingling hip-hop licks, some tasty latin and tropical flavours, as well as a generous portion of bass for your face. Inviting a couple of extra-special lip-splitting vocalists on the mic, be warned - this is not for the faint-hearted.
