Movimientos Presents: La Gallera Social Club + Eri Okan + Too Much Love

28.08.2015
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.
Movimientos are back with a Bank Holiday, Carnival special. We’ve got La Gallera Social Club direct from Venezuela for their psychedelic UK debut. Joining them are Carnival Mainstay Eri Okan with their hypnotic Afro-Brazilian drums. Kicking off the night are Too Much Love with their rich, funky, cosmic disco sound backed by Latin rhythms. Do not miss this serious Carnival warm up.

LA GALLERA SOCIAL CLUB
Direct from Venezuela for their Debut UK gig

La Gallera Social Club are an exciting trip filled with Venezuelan folklore, psychedelia and traditional atmospheres from South American culture. You can hear the protest of the oppressed people with a touch of bright hopes, because it is here where Latin America and the Caribe vibrate.

“La Gallera” is the country, the joy, the fun, the place where the roosters get together, not to fight but to sing and dance, bringing back the cadence of the traditional melodies or Venezuelan music, playing the instruments to show the greatness of the soul.

Miguel, Alexis and Carlos took to the “Gallera” to make their music, creating a country a social club: a place to get together, for friendship, communication and celebration. There’s not fighting in this cockpit, only colorful joy!

Expect bright colours, classic latin rhythms, and a little bit of madness from the dancing roosters.

ERI OKAN
Getting hyped for Notting Hill Carnival

Eri Okan = Consciência = Conscience

The cultural movement grows, breathes and with each breath ideas are born. Eri Okan: a band, an afro-block, an expression of original street culture, integral to London; its roots in Samba-Reggae and the Afro-centric music of North East Brazil fused with Afro Beat and Jamaican Reggae.

Banda Afro Eri Okan have been performing since 2003. Clubs, festivals, street parties and special events. Since 2004, the 50 piece street ensemble Bloco Afro Eri Okan have paraded at the Notting Hill Carnival every year.

At the core of an Eri Okan performance is a drum section of between four and twenty percussionists. They knock out the amazing sounds of the repinique, timbau, surdo and caixa; backing up the singing and songwriting talents of Xavier Osmir (Brazil), Seyi Adjeigbe (Nigeria), Marcina Arnold (UK) and Rebeca Valim (Brazil).

TOO MUCH LOVE
At the core of T.M.L are Vicky and Simi - siblings and songwriting partners who have been playing music together their whole lives. Vicky, weaned on Herbie Hancock, combines rich, soulful vocals with irresistibly groovy keyboard lines, while her brother’s guitar scratches and syncopations lend the music an infectious energy.

The siblings are backed up by a killer rhythm section consisting of bass ('The Sheppard'), drums ('Tito'), and bongos ('The Count') whose funky, afro-cuban rhythms are guaranteed to make you move. The band is rounded off by another family connection - 'The Red Hot Horns'. These two brothers produce massive, joyful horn lines imbued with the elegance of jazz.
