Movimientos presents: Family Atlantica + Dandaluz @ Passing Clouds

19.10.2013
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.

Saturday 19th October, 8pm @ Passing Clouds

Price: £5 before 10pm, £8 after 10pm

Passing Clouds once again hosts our two-floor global party! Easily the best club in Dalston and an institution to global music fans in the capital. This October Movimientos welcomes the mighty Family Atlantica (Soundway) - their album has been recorded over 4 years in London and Venezuela: Cuban rumba, Venezuelan tambor and tonada, Ghanaian highlife, Ethiopian blues and calypso soaked and infused with psychedelia and jazz. Led by London born Jack Yglesias, producer, multi-instrumentalist and a veteran of The Heliocentrics, and his wife Luzmira Zerpa, traditional Venezuelan musician, poet and singer with a voice acclaimed by Manu Chao. We cannot recommend these guys more highly. With support from Dandaluz: Rumba, Pachanga, Flamenco, Salsa and Bossa Nova… yes! Movimientos DJ crew Jader and Arias spinning their trademark underground Latin beats downstairs and Brazilian party tunes spinning all night upstairs. Get ready.

LIVE ACTS

FAMILY ATLANTICA

"Burn the passports, rip up the map and immerse yourself into the borderless, limit-free world of Family Atlantica. Anchored to London but home to many different nationalities, this collective's musical voyage zigzags back and forth across the Atlantic, soaking up influences and styles from Venezuela to Ghana, finding common ancestry and reshaping it into an irresistible tornado of psychedelicised tropical grooves. Signed to Soundway Records, those excellent guardians of endangered musical styles from Africa and Latin America, Family Atlantica's debut album also takes excursions to Cuba and Senegal - as well as offering a goosebumper of a collaboration with that mighty Ethiopian bandleader Mulatu Astatke. But at no point does a single note or beat sound remotely contrived. As a recent five-star review in Songlines so correctly declared, in the hands of Family Atlantica, "it becomes impossible to separate the source from the offshoots." (Nige Tassell 2013)

DANDALUZ

From Sevilla, Cartagena (Chile) and London they bring together the melodies and rhythms of Rumba, Pachanga, Flamenco, Salsa and Bossa Nova creating instantly memorable songs and an infectious sound. Dandaluz are Antonio Gavira Garcia (lead vocals, cajon), Chris Robinson (keyboard, melodica), Manu Amoscotegui (guitar, vocals) and Yuri Betancourt Garcia (guitar, bass). They formed in the summer of 2012 in the hills of Cadiz where Manu and Antonio were playing as Ritmos del Sur. They soon discovered a common love for pachanga and brought the sound to London's Dalston where they're now based.
