LIVE ACTS

DENDE

Dende are a Brighton based nine piece party band playing a unique and eclectic mix of tunes with a firm rooting in afro-latin styles: Chicha, Cumbia, Reggae, Ska, Dub, Psychedelic, Country, Hiphop, Brazilian, Drum and Bass, Afro-everything. The name DENDE comes from an afro-brazilian expression which means if you have 'Dende' you have 'soul' or 'a strong spirit'. It also finds its origin in the word 'Duende' coming from Spanish Flamenco meaning 'Passion'.

TOO MUCH LOVE

At the core of T.M.L are Vicky and Simi - siblings and songwriting partners who have been playing music together their whole lives. Vicky, weaned on Herbie Hancock, combines rich, soulful vocals with irresistibly groovy keyboard lines, while her brother’s guitar scratches and syncopations lend the music an infectious energy.

The siblings are backed up by a killer rhythm section consisting of bass ('The Sheppard'), drums ('Tito'), and bongos ('The Count') whose funky, afro-cuban rhythms are guaranteed to make you move. The band is rounded off by another family connection - 'The Red Hot Horns'. These two brothers produce massive, joyful horn lines imbued with the elegance of jazz.

BITCH AND MONK

"Bitch and Monk?performances are a high-energy showcase of experimental creativity and musicality. Their songs combine lyrical and sensual, neurotic and furious, drawing on jazz, rock and folk, and even dub and classical music... innovative use of pedals, which can take orchestral proportions. With lyrics witty, political, erotic and obscure, and a strong emphasis on improvisation, their shows are ever-varied and truly original."
