Movimientos presents: Carnival Collective + Cable St Collective + Bits Cooking @ Hootananny

21.09.2013
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.

Saturday September 21st @ Hootananny Brixton 9pm - 3 am
Free before 10pm, £3 after 10pm

Movimientos welcomes another unprecedented line-up at Brixton's award winning musical establishment, with the legendary Brighton crew Carnival Collective headlining. These festival favourites play funk, drum and bass, ska, dub with other dance influences - using traditional Brazilian instruments with a banging brass section and smoking vocals. Support comes from the happy troupe Cable Street Collective playing rhythm-driven, sunshine music that draws on the influences of Congolese Soukous and South African Kwela bands, as well as sounds from closer to home such as Primal Scream and the Stone Roses. Plus Bits Cooking bring a melting pot of cultures with organic beats and samples, fusing together Hip-Hop, Dub, D&B with Latin vibes. Movimientos DJs will be firing up the decks with Latin rhythms, carnival beats and tropical bass. Could you want much more than this? See you on the dancefloor.

LIVE ACTS:

CARNIVAL COLLECTIVE
Big new sounds from this band of many maestros. Harmonies and original compositions that capture the sound of a festival generation, and their lyrics have substance as well as style, always a good thang. Carnival Collective are an ever evolving and mutating gigantic musical experience, made up of a dynamic group of musicians who raise the temperature, the tempo and the volume at festivals, nightclubs, open-air venues and a myriad of other events.'

CABLE STREET COLLECTIVE
Combining African, Reggae and Blues influences with conscious lyrics, an ear for a catchy tune and a stomping beat, Cable Street Collective make happy tropical tunes that'll keep you frolicking through the night. We'd say the South African Kwela band influence is the strongest, although they've also been said to carry sounds of The Beta Band and Happy Mondays!

BITS COOKING
Three-piece fusing together of Hip-Hop, Dub, Electronica, D&B with Latin vibes. Samples vary from classical Latin strings to steel drums & the vocals have some old school Blackalicious and even Fugee vibes… yes we say. Band members are Falsa Alarma from Peru (MPC, flute, perc, keys) B Freak from Portugal (vox, perc, guitar, keys), Tom “Le Rouge” from UK (drums, samples).
