Championing a wild fusion of Cuban timba and salsa with soul, funk, Latin rhythms, reggae and drum and bass, WARA have been heralded as one of the most exciting acts in London right now. The band is fronted by Congolese-Argentinean vocalist Juanita Euka (niece of the legendary Congolese musician Franco); with musical director Eliane Correa, who takes the vocal lead on 'Pretty Cliche', on keys and not to forget MC Murmur (Fur) on the rhymes.
"They mash Cuban jazz-funk, clubby beats and smart hooks – lead track 'Flesh And Bone' is a Latin-London blast"
Single of the week - London Metro
"(Wara are) at the cutting edge…the musical pulse"
Lopa Kothari, BBC Radio 3
"They continue a powerful journey into latin funk that has been undertaken by only a handful of bands recently. Its strong and energetic stuff and I'm loving it."
John Warr, Afrobase
A prolific DJ, musician, producer and remixer who’s been on the scene for two decades, playing massive clubs and festivals across Europe as well as hosting his own legendary Global Funk Parties in his local Basque Country. A stalwart of the ever excellent Lovemonk Records with several releases and a recent album, 'Unexpected Tapas', on the label. His production styles veer from Spanish rumba beats, gypsy swing, funk and jazz to more tropical sounds like latin, boogaloo, cumbia and ska, seamlessly combined with modern electronics.
Inspired by the counter-culture movement of Recife, Brazil in the 70's - the Udigrudi host a seriously funky eclectic Brazilian themed affair with anything from tropicalia to samba, reggae, funk and latin beats with DJs Larissa and guests Mozhev and Alquimix
Cartas Para Angola
A documentary where various Brazilians with a connection to Angola are asked to send video postcards to people they once knew in Angola or sometimes complete strangers, and the reaction of the Angolans is filmed. Which makes for this really interesting piece about identity, while also revealing a lot about the similarities and differences between people from Brazil, Angola and Portugal.
