Movimientos Fiesta at Passing Clouds

19.02.2016
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.
Movimientos are back for our first Passing Cloud’s Fiesta of 2016. This time we’ve got one of the hottest latin bands around, the award winning Dorance Lorza & Sexteto Cafe with their distinctive Salsa con vibes sabor. Joining them with a more experimental take on Salsa, mixing in electronica with a full 9-piece band are Arcadio. Plus spinning his own blend of beats, mash ups, and Latin cuts is special guest Carnibal Records’ tropical b-boy DJ Inko.

DORANCE LORZA & SEXTETO CAFE
Upbeat melodies of Salsa-con-vibes

Dorance Lorza & Sexteto Cafe have been one of the leading bands in the vibrant and exciting London salsa scene since they formed in 1996. Pioneering the worldwide “salsa con vibes” revival of the late 1990s, they were one of the first bands in Europe to favour the small combo salsa sound of 1960s/1970s bands like Joe Cuba Sextet/ New Swing Sextet/Pete Terrace Combo rather than that of the more common big brass-heavy salsa orchestras of the day.

Colombian born band leader Dorance Lorza already had a very impressive record from back home as a musician, arranger, composer and producer, working with the the biggest names in Colombian salsa music such as Los Niches, Los Del Caney, Los Titanes, Los Nemus Del Pacifico, Orquesta Canela, Santiago Ceron, La Octava Dimension, Kike Harvey, Cali Aleman and Fruko y su Orquesta.

ARCADIO
Salsa meets electronica on the dancefloor

‘Arcadio’ is a 9-piece ensemble which aims to blend Salsa, electronica and free improvisation into a hypnotic and psychedelic live experience. A classic 3-person ‘son’ percussion section creates a solid base of afro-latin rhythms, with the addition of double-bass, underpins fiery improvisation by three saxophones, keyboard-synths, and live electronics. Drawing influence from a diverse range of artists, from Salsa masters such as Ray Barretto and Hector Lavoe, the formal experimentalism of The Necks and Jon Hassell, the improvisational nomadism of Evan Parker and Ken Vandermark, plus the electronic sounds of contemporary house and electronica artists such as Lapalux and George Fitzgerald. Don’t let the experimental approach fool you though, as the resulting sound is aimed squarely at dancefloor.
