08.06.2018
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.
After our debut Love Carnival out East earlier this year we are excited to announce our return! Bringing more tropical vibes to the amazing Total Refreshment Centre with two very exciting guests the mighty DJ Tahira jetting in from São Paulo and incredible live Maracatu and carnival sounds from Baque de Axé.

Following the recent release of his new compilation record ‘Levanta Poeira’ on Munich-based record label Jazz & Milk DJ Tahira makes his Love Carnival debut at Total Refreshment Centre. The record’s title comes from a well known Brazilian phrase meaning “to kick up dust” - exactly what Tahira’s selections want you to do. As a highly respected digger in the São Paulo scene Tahira is adept at selecting cuts that will make you dance, embracing rhythms from across the spectrum of Brazilian music.

Joining him, London-based Maracatu group, Baque de Axé represent the rhythmic sounds of Pernambuco in Northern Brazil - a carnival band, learning & sharing the music, dance, culture and history of Nação do Maracatu Porto Rico.

As ever, the Love Carnival familia DJ Cal Jader & Selecta Mad Max will be representing the full spectrum of Tropical riddims, Global Bass, Dancehall & Carnival sounds.

Plus mind-blowing visuals from Oddscene, immersive interactive fun, colourful characters and vibrant tropical decor.

DJ Tahira

Tahira is on of São Paulo’s most active DJs and music collectors, highly respected in the digging community. He started DJing House music in the 90s, before getting into more downtempo Acid Jazz, Hip Hop and Trip Hop beats. Moving to London for a year in 2000 he learnt a lot from the Nu-jazz and Broken Beat scene of the time - particularly the respect that a city can give to its culture. Disappointed with the scene in São Paulo, he began to explore new Brazilian and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, founding EBS Diggin and opening up a whole new world of possibilities. His sets now embrace the Brazilian sound, representing music from across the spectrum of Brazilian genres.

Baque de Axé

Coming from a movement of maracatu in the UK that stretches back till the early 90’s, Baque de Axé is the latest incarnation of Pernambuco’s maracatu spirit in London. With a pedigree that started with Acorda Povo, that developed into Maracatu Estrela do Norte, this group has now blossomed into Baque de Axé. As part of the family of Recife Carnival champions, Nação do Maracatu Porto Rico, Baque de Axé bring the thunderous drums of resistance, the songs celebrating their community and their roots in Candomblé, and the dancers, expressing their connection with the African and indigenous spirituality and traditions that are at the heart of the art form and cultural expression that is MARACATU.
