More about the music at VILLAGE UNDERGROUND…
SKA CUBANO - Formed from the best Cuban, Jamaican and other Caribbean musicians in London, the massive, Grammy award winning Ska Cubano draw on the 1980s Ska movement and roots music to create Cuban Ska. Their latest album ‘Mambo Ska’ was described as "A raucous, riotous, irresistible blast... high octane party and festival music of the first order" (All About Jazz).
LOS CHINCHES – A combination of Peruvian percussionists and London bred guitar and keyboard players creating an epic new sound that harnesses the psychedelic twists of Peruvian Cumbia, and the Punk and Ska spirit of London. They draw upon the style of Cumbia developed in Peru in the 1960s - known as 'Chicha' – which, along with their rocking tropical energy, makes for blistering live performances!! Debut album ‘Fongo’ is out this year on Movimientos Records.
WARA - Create an epic musical genre with Cuban roots with members from Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Ghana, Congo, Spain and the UK. With soulful, contagious vocals from Congolese-Argentinean lead Juanita Euka (niece of legendary Congolese musician Franco), inspired keyboard flourishes from MD Eliane Correa, MC Murmur quick on the London hip hop and a super tight Latin/UK mix on the rhythm section, their musical energy is palpable. Their EP “Flesh and Bone” is out now on Movimientos Records.
THEY SAY JUMP - A high jumping, skilled and frenzied musical ride with intricate, tight arrangements, They Say Jump combine influences from Latin America and the Caribbean islands. A carnival of sound from Latin to Reggae and Ska; they’ve have been rocking stages through the summer festivals and parties. Debut EP coming soon.
DJ SUBCULTURE SOUNDS With a brand spanking kick ass remix for Los Chinches in the bag and one for another band on the bill - Wara - on the way Mr Subculture Sounds seems like the perfect choice as a guest DJ on Movimientos' Village Underground lineup. He is currently working tirelessly in the studio Subculture Sounds exploring hybrids of Latino, Tropical, Caribbean and Balkan sounds with a handful of club genres.
