Decks: DJs Cal Jader & special guest DJ Dolores (Recife - Brazil)
Live: BotecoElectro
This month DJ Cal Jader is joined by the legendary Brazilian selector and producer Dolores for the monthly fiesta that is Muévete with it's original formula of uptempo Latino-Caribbean-Tropical soundclash vibe where classic rhythms get bastardised and twisted up for the modern dancefloor.
Given the healthy relations between newly elected Brazilian President Dilma Roussef and Cuba's revolutionary government it's perhaps appropriate Havana Calling has recently welcomed some of the most boundary pushing Brazilian musical revolutionaries (DJ Tahira, Chico Correa) to slay the dance floor at the Arts Club and this month our guest DJ Dolores continues the trend and tops them all. As a pioneer at the forefront of Brazil's new movement which reappropriates some of the country’s neglected traditions, especially those popular styles traditionally shunned by the establishment. Over a long career he's collaborated with and remixed the likes of Gilberto Gil, Nação Zumbi, Fernanda Porto, Beastie Boys and David Byrne. And with his new project Stank he's taken his sound one step further incorporating elements of dancehall, drum ‘n’ bass, dubstep, and tecnobrega with a heavy dose of old skool rave and Recife's mangue-beat attitude. Get set for the dance floor explosion from the Caribbean to the Amazon and the Mangue (Mangroves) of Recife!
Plus on the early on (8.30pm) there's a live set from Rio De Janeiro's Botecoelectro remixing traditional Brazilian carnival styles into a furious blaze of electronic beats.

PURE TROPICAL PARTY VIBES!! A favourite for Saturday night crowds in West London, Muévete is a monthly fiesta - a pure party version of Movimientos, with a dance floor-slammin' mash up of raw Latin beats and tropical bass. From the rolling Latin rhythms of salsa, cumbia, merengue and Samba to the raw urban flavours of reggaeton, Hip Hop, dancehall, moombahton, baile funk and dutty carnival rhythms, incorporating a healthy dose of African beats and global underground music.
Put simply Muévete translates as 'Move it!' so we're not beating around the bush - straight to the dancefloor!

DJ Dolores
DJ Dolores has been active in the musical scene of his hometown Recife since his collaboration with Mangue Beat originators Chico Science and Nação Zumbi in the late ‘80s. He then worked as a graphic designer, TV documentary producer, soundtrack composer for films and theatre before adopting the turntables and sampler as a means of expression. He has remixed tracks for Gilberto Gil, Tribalistas, Fernanda Porto and Taraf de Haïdouks, was invited to take part (alongside David Byrne and the Beastie Boys) in Wired Magazine's Rip, Mash, Sample, Share project in support of the Creative Commons licenses, wrote and recorded soundtrack music for Brazilian films A Máquina and Narradores de Javé, and has won several awards in Brazil and abroad (including the 2004 BBC World Music Award, in the ‘club global’ category). His previous albums came out in 2002 (Contraditório) and 2005 (Aparelhagem) DJ Dolores is definitely at the forefront of a new movement which reappropriates some of the country’s neglected traditions, especially those popular styles traditionally shunned by the establishment, and brings them to a wider audience, thus bridging the gaps between poor & rich, young & old, and showing that there’s an amazingly rich musical world beyond samba and bossa nova.
His new project STANK takes his unique sound one step further incorporating elements of dancehall, drum ‘n’ bass, dubstep and tecnobrega with a heavy dose of old skool rave and mangue-beat attitude
