JOAQUÍN CORNEJO
Hailing from Quito, Ecuador, music producer and DJ Joaquín Cornejo has established a proposal that continuously pushes the constraints of genre boundaries in a loose manner. Looking for soulfulness in machines and inspired by old-school dub methods, Joaquín uses old magnetic tape recorders and analog music toys accompanied by acoustic instruments to create deep electronic music full of texture and emotion. His sonic explorations range between deep ambient works, latin folkloric and fast paced tribal rave music. His Las Frutas EP was a big favourite of DJ’s like Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs & Tom Ravenscroft!
‘Expect tribal rhythms, low-slung grooves, left-leaning dub techniques, splatters of footwork, and mesmerising songwriting.’ – XLR8R.
DJ RAFF
A heady mix of percussive patterns and hypnotic melodies laced together with samples from across the Afro-Latin diaspora, DJ Raff’s sound is rooted locally but resonates globally.
As such, DJ Raff describes himself as a relator – or sonic storyteller – speaking in a “musical language” of kaleidoscopic rhythms and atmospheric instrumental moods that draw on myriad influences from the Andean regions of Chile, Peru, Bolivia and beyond. Now based in London, DJ Raff has established himself as one of the most prolific producers on the scene, releasing fifteen singles and remixes in the last two years, and amassing support from BBC 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson and Tom Ravenscroft among many others.
