FLAWA: La Dame Blanche + Wara Flyer

FLAWA: La Dame Blanche + Wara

17.05.2019
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.
FLAWA are extremely excited to welcome this incredible lineup of Latinx artists, rattling your preconceptions of what Cuban music sounds like and consistently defying expectations, Cuba’s La Dame Blanche will be gracing the stage at Rich Mix alongside London powerhouse Wara!

Cuban singer, flautist and percussionist Yaite Ramos Rodriguez, aka La Dame Blanche, delivers a powerful and compelling sound strong enough to summon the spirits. Now based in Paris, her explosive mix of hip hop, cumbia, dancehall and reggae has been making waves around the world, with an impressive range of collaborators, from Gotan Project’s Philippe Cohen-Solal to Brazilian rap legend Rincon Sapiência. Her father being the artistic director of the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, Yaite grew up surrounded by music and this shows on her records. While rooted in Afro-Cuban tradition, La Dame Blanche’s music is not afraid of pushing boundaries and we can’t wait for her to light up the dancefloor at Rich Mix.

Alongside her we welcome London-based Wara. Driven by the grooves of contemporary Havana and mobilized by the dynamic sounds of London’s underground, Wara have crafted a hard-hitting and contagious style. Together, this award-winning Pan-Latin musical outfit plays deep into the rhythms of urban Afro-Caribbean music, fueling their signature sound with dembow, bass-heavy hip hop and electronica. Led by producer and composer Eliane Correa, the band has become known for its emphasis on Latin-American narratives and exploration of regional music cultures. With backgrounds spanning from Cuba to the Congo, Venezuela to Chile, Wara’s performances are provocative and uncompromising, a musical testament to a this 6-piece powerhouse.

This show is presented by FLAWA (Festival of Latin American Women in Arts). Showcasing and promoting new artistic trends and expressions from different latitudes of the Latin-American culture, FLAWA intends to open a space for self-identifying women with a Latin American background to reclaim their narratives through a variety of artistic expressions.
