Fiesta Liberación

03.12.2016
#FLAWA2020 has prepared a night of non-stopping dance with Ms Nina, a young multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently based in Spain. She achieved international recognition as a net artist, exhibiting at Junior High (Los Angeles), La Térmica and La Fresh Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in Spain. Her musical career has made her one of the key figures to understand the Latin rhythms that sound in Europe.

Evening Fiesta: 8pm - 1am: Live acts, DJs & visuals

Movimientos and Alborada join forces for an offshoot of their Cine Liberación event, Fiesta Liberación, celebrating the other side of Latin America and forms of cultural resistance through documentary film, music, visuals and more.

For this event there’s a special focus on recent political developments in Brazil following the parliamentary coup that ousted the government of Dilma Rousseff plus a focus on the contemporary sounds of Caracas, Venezuela with a film screening of ‘Son de la Zona’ and talk by Desorden Publico’s guitarist Magu Vagabundo. We will also have an update on state of play of Colombia’s peace process with some exclusive clips from a forthcoming documentary Truce, about women guerrilla peace negotiators.

For the evening fiesta the drums of liberty will sound, as two of the most prominent groups of Brazilian carnival music in the UK bring the spirit of resistance to life. Eri Okan have been one of the pioneers of Samba Reggae in the UK for over 10 years taking their inspiration and channelling the likes of lle Aiye, Fela Kuti, Burning Spear, Olodum, Bob Marley, Clara Nunes & Carlinhos Brown for a powerful representation of the classic Salvador sound. And another legendary local band Maracatu Estrela Do Norte play Maracatu de Baque Virado – a vibrant style of music that dates back hundreds of years and is rooted in Afro-Brazilian culture.

And the new sounds of Venezuela are celebrated with a DJ set from the host of our earlier film screening Magu Vagabundo. Whilst Movimientos Alborada Soundsystem DJs supply some latin beats to keep the night jumping.
