Candeleros + Tambores Livres + DJ Armenio (Guacamayo Tropical) + DJ Cal Jader

Movimientos bring Candeleros back to London after a mega gig at Pop Brixton earlier this year, with their modern twist on psychedelic cumbia and Afro-Latin rhythms, while Tambores Livres bring their Brazilian Carnival drums of resistance to the Hoot. With a fresh interpretation of Latin American and tropical traditions, DJ Armenio of Madrid powerhouse Guacamayo Tropical and Movimientos’ DJ Cal Jader will be on hand throughout the night to keep the party going.

With origins in Venezuela and Colombia and now based in Madrid, Candeleros are proof that cumbia has truly arrived in Europe for good. Infusing punk energy into their contemporary interpretation of traditions, this six-piece band will take you on a journey through the vibrant and immensely rich musical culture of the Afro-Latin Caribbean, fusing merengue, champeta, salsa, and son, with bullerengue and cumbia in a ritual of Latin American percussion and soaring surf guitar riffs.

Across London a movement is taking shape. A movement of socially concerned Brazilians and people of all corners of the world who are determined to shine a light on those that have resisted and continue to fight for rights and democracy. TAMBORES LIVRES is an unprecedented collaboration between different musical & cultural groups coming together to celebrate Brazilian heroes and heroines at Notting Hill Carnival, a loud response to the rise of the far right in Brazil. This special Carnival warm-up show will bring together some of London’s most prominent carnival groups, musicians, drummers and activists for an explosion of unity and musical resistance.
