Spiritual South
Specialising in music from Brazil, Latin-America & Africa.
Formed in 1999, Spiritual South is the brainchild of Mark Robertson, a DJ, Music Producer and ‘mad about music’ collector. Exposed to a hybrid of music which blurred boundaries between Afro-American music and the rhythms, melodies, and arrangements of Latin America and Africa; Spiritual South has continued to champion music from the hot zones whether it be behind the decks or in the studio - his ethos “creating, exposing and celebrating tropical dance music with musically like-minded, the world over”. As well as his own top releases, Spiritual South has also remixed for every top label around.
Spiritual South guarantees to deliver infectious tropical sounds and rhythms, aimed squarely at the hips, feet and dancefloor. Watch the ride!
AROOP ROY
Aroop Roy is a musician, producer and DJ with over 10 years international experience. His unique take on tropical, jazz and soul has been supported by major tastemakers around the world.
Aroop came onto the scene with the samba influenced 12" Too Long on London's highly acclaimed Jazz and Latin label Freestyle Records, followed up by his debut album Nomadic Soul which fused jazz, afro and latin with different elements of UK dance culture. He has been a guest DJ on Gilles Peterson's legendary Worldwide show and was selected to take part in the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy.
Recently, his Brazil Breakdown series on GAMM records, featuring remixes of both rare and classic Brazilian music, has been a huge success, topping sales charts, with vinyl selling out. Part 3 released in summer 2015 has been equally well-received, featuring on BBC 6 Music's monthly Playlister of most requested tracks.
