Celebrating the 8th Birthday of the Bussey Building and Mr Bongo’s 25th Anniversary year!
We’re BACK!
After 1...2...3! Massive Love Carnivals this year, we’re ready for our biggest night yet in August. Celebrating their 25th Anniversary year we’ve got the Mr Bongo Soundsystem to shake the walls of the Bussey Building until you can’t take anymore.
Representing the legendary brighton based label, the Mr Bongo Soundsystem specialises in bringing sounds to dancefloors across the world. Expect an eclectic, leftfield 'golden-era' Brazilian, Latin, African and Psychedelic sounds, on vinyl as well as delving into the more modern realm of tropical electronic beats and bass music, and a healthy dose of new wave Carioca funk.
Joining the party is the mercurial Mango Park from Bristol – an exceptional pan-tropical selector and promoter of the afro-centric club night Lengoma, who has been been bringing his high-energy and infectious blend of global underground dance music to club and festival audiences around the UK and Europe. Mango Park focuses on combining African, South American and Caribbean rhythms with electronic bass sounds, his sets have been known to encompass everything from Soukous to Baile Funk via Soca, Kuduro, Dancehall, Footwork, Cumbia and Grime.
Kicking the night off is London based Loo Wee Gee, one of the heads over at Culture Cuts Collective. Loo Wee Gee, and his alter ego Loo Foodle, is a self titled promoter of all things rhythmic. Having just dropped a recent guest mix for Movimientos, he’ll be bringing his unique spin on all things tropical.
Not forgetting on hosting duties we have the Love Carnival Sound System. DJ Cal Jader, and Selecta Mad Max will be running through the spectrum of fresh tropical riddims from Cumbia to Afrobeats, Dancehall, Moombahton and much more, while the mighty Fedzilla take the mic with multi-lingual lyricism and international flow. This combined with cutting-edge visuals from Oddscene and decor our in house Tropical Guardian Angel, all conspire to make the Biggest, Brightest, Best Bongo Bussey Birthday Bash ever!

More on Mr Bongo
Starting life as record store in Berwick Street in 1989, Mr Bongo were the first place to sell vinyl releases from independent hip hop labels such as Def Jam, Rawkus, Nervous and Big Beat outside of the USA. They also gained a reputation for hard-to-find, classic Latin, and particularly Brazilian, music. After moving around Soho and even opening a branch in Japan before finally settling in Brighton, Mr Bongo has a recording roster featuring some of the best Brazilian, Latin, reggae, African and Jazz music by artists including Terry Callier, Jorge Ben, Joyce, Seu Jorge, Prince Fatty, Incredible Bongo Band, and Marcos Valle. Along with this roster they also have a prolific output of reissues from the likes of Lyn Collins, RAMP, Ebo Taylor, Labi Siffre, Shuggie Otis, Roy Ayers, and countless more. More recently their Brazil 45’s, Latin 45’s, Reggae 45’s, and Africa 45’s have brought hard to find classics from around the world to new light with punch 45rpm 7” prints.
