Movimientos and Mama Sound presents
Bia Ferreira
“MMP – Música de Mulher Preta” (Music by Black Women) is what the singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer calls her music. The content of her lyrics clearly positions itself against racism, homophobia and other discrimination and is a very political plea for feminism and love.
As a teenager, Bia Ferreira traveled all over Brazil with her guitar, playing her music for anyone who would listen. This is how she spread her political messages and exuded the love that makes up all her songs.
Through the Sofar Sound sessions, she reached more than 13 million views on YouTube with her song “Cota Não É Esmola” and since 2017 she has been touring solo or with a band throughout Brazil and Europe. Singing in Portuguese, she made her first live recordings “Bia Ferreira no Estúdio Showlivre (Ao Vivo)” in 2018, recorded her first studio album “Igreja Lesbiteriana, Um Chamado” in 2019 and followed it with the first part of her double album “Faminta” in 2022. An album full of love songs based on Brazilian rhythms and Afrobeat, which focuses on the revolutionary love of black LGBTIQ+ people. The second part of the double album is expected in the spring of 2023 and remains political in content. Musically, her audience will be invited on a journey into the genres of reggae, ragga and rap.
