The forces of underground Chilean Hip Hop align in London for one very special night with the acclaimed young Mapuche rapper MC Millaray making her live debut in the UK capital alongside another London debut for one of Chile’s most prominent contemporary producer / DJs Cidtronyck, as well as a very special Hip Hop set from one of the original pioneers of the scene DJ Raff.
MC Millaray
MC Millaray, is a young firebrand lyricist from Chile connecting her Mapuche culture with Hip Hop, drawing on her indigenous roots to deliver her music with a social message. She gained wider exposure in the 2020 Al Jazeera produced documentary “Mapuche Teen rap Queen”, while releasing a song “Rebelíon de Octubre” with renowned singer-songwriter Ana Tijoux – capturing the spirit of the protests held in Chile in 2019 year and is set to release her own debut album later in 2023. She is also the spokesperson for the network of Mapuche childhood and environmental activists where she fights for the protection of sacred territories.
Cidtronyck
Cidtronyck is a renowned DJ and music producer who began his career in 2003 linked to the Hip Hop scene. With a classic and fresh sound influenced to a large extent by the rap of the 90’s from the east coast of the USA. He has a very particular technique and language in turntables that distinguishes him. He was part of the rap group Salvaje Decibel and worked for a period of 10 years as a dj, producer and second voice of the well-known MC Portavoz. He has also collaborated in musical composition and creation with other artists such as Matiah Chinaski, Ana Tijoux, Bronko Yotte, Catana, Macha (Bloque Depresivo y Chico Trujillo), Stailok (Original Movement), Rxnde Akozta (Cuba), Rapsusklei (Spain), FranK Nitt de Frank ́N ́Dank (U.S.A.), Suff Daddy (Germany), Juli Giuliani (Spain), among others.
DJ Raff
DJ Raff first made his name in Chile where he helped to sow the seeds of what is now considered one of the most important Hip Hop scenes of Latin America before progressing to producing electronic music. His creative sampling, big beats and arrangements earned him a place among Latin America’s most highly regarded DJs and producers.
His name appears as a DJ/ sound engineer/producer on over 50 hip-hop releases in Chile, including that of Ana Tijoux’s group Makiza. In 2011 he released the game changing ‘Latino & Proud’ on Nacional Records (Bomba Estereo, Ana Tijoux) which featured on EA Sports FIFA 2012. Since pushing his productions in a more electronic direction Raff has played events like Sonar Barcelona, Mutek.ES, Lollapalooza (US, Argentina, Chile), RBMA Mexico and Red Bull also invited him to mentor at the 2015 RBMA Bass Camp academy in Chile.
In recent years he’s put out releases for Nacional Records and Big in Japan as well as string of killer self released tunes and edits whilst making remixes for the likes of Dengue Dengue Dengue – as well as playing shows in the UK including Earth Hackney, The Tate Modern and The Great Escape Festival and since 2020 has been bringing his unique vibes to the airwaves as resident on Balamii Radio.
