Música Macondo and Movimientos present Beat of Brazil, a night that showcases the very best in Brazilian music courtesy of The Fontanas and Let Drum Beat who will be performing live, accompanied by DJ sets from Mafalda and Sonido Tropico's El Peche.
Fans of Brazillian funk and Latin beats will be in safe hands with our headliners The Fontanas. The band is comprised of hand picked musicians who have played alongside the likes of Incognito and Alice Russell. Described as 'Seriously funky' by BBC6Music, they'll make you feel like carnival never ended.
LET DRUM BEAT are a unique al female's band that have gathered their vast set of Afro-brazilian percussion to create energetic and pace rhythms, passing through vocal harmonies. They write songs songs in portuguese and also use indigenous Tupi-guarani words. For this show at the Jazz Cafe they are joined by the cellist Aga.
London-based Portuguese DJ, Mafalda is quickly establishing herself as one of the most tasteful record players in town. Her unique inclination for soul, jazz, bossa and other heartwarming sounds has already shined in variousclub nights where she’s played with the likes of Sadar Bahar, Floating Points, Antal, Hunee, among others. She appears on NTS regularly and recently played an incredible set for Brazil day on Worldwide FM. Mafalda also co-runs Melodies Int. with Floating Points, a label devoted to unveiling hidden disco gems from the past. And this is only a further testament to her incredible devotion to music.
Having just come back to the UK from his European tour we are delighted to invited Sao Paulo native and Sonido Tropico resident ElPeche down, to grace the decks and bring you the best in tropicalia and Brazilian folk sounds.
